Last Stop

Last Stop was a LoFi track I produced while experimenting with the new Expressive Chords Module in Ableton 12.2. My collaborator and friend, Chris Deas, suggested that since it was an instrumental track, it might be great to have a visualizer or something attached.

I decided to take it a step further and to use this as a bit of a trial run to use Generative AI tools to create a visualization. Although I have mixed feelings about AI in general, this seemed like an opportunity to put it to the test to see if the hype and fear around generative AI is warranted in the creative arts.

In short, it was a real mixed bag. I ended up generating a 2 minute video, but it took me almost 6 hours of prompting OpenART.ai in order to get a series of clips that I then manually edited together into a bit of a story using Premiere Pro. The process was fun, but far from being easy or controllable.

In short, I love some of the imagery and weird “AI-isms” that the AI video contains. It’s creepy and interesting. However, this is certainly no challenge to a true visionary filmmaker or director. It’s an interesting tool, but there is clearly still a long way to go.
